Miami Heparin Lawsuit Lawyer

Baxter International announced on March 5, 2008, that they are recalling nearly all their heparin products after they initially recalled nine lots of heparin sodium injection multi-dose vials back on January 17, 2008, and suspended production earlier this month. The reason for the recall is that the drug was linked to four patient deaths and hundreds of allergic reactions.

The recall comes after an earlier investigation launched by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in February due to spikes in reported health problems (serious injury and death) associated with heparin use. This led to the FDA recalling some forms of the product. The New York Times reported that the Food and Drug Administration had discovered possible links to 17 other deaths. The paper added that the agency is focusing on a Chinese plant that supplies the active ingredient in heparin, which is made from mucous membranes extracted from pig intestines.

Recalled products include:

  • Heparin sodium injection multi-dose
  • Heparin single-dose vials
  • HEP-LOCK heparin flush products
