Recalled Disney Onesies Could Present a Choking Hazard
No one has ever accused the folks at Disney of missing an opportunity for product tie-ins with its films and characters. With its $4 billion acquisition of Lucasfilm back in 2012 and with it the “Star Wars” franchise, those opportunities have increased exponentially.
This extends to future Disney fans still in diapers. Unfortunately, the company has had to recall approximately 10,000 onesies because it was discovered that the snaps on them could detach. This could present a potential choking hazard for little ones who generally have a penchant for putting everything within reach in their mouths. The good news is that no one has reported any injuries as a result of the defective snaps.
One of the styles of onesies impacted by the recall features Darth Vader with a light saber. It was sold in sizes 3M through 24M. The other celebrates Disneyland’s 60th anniversary with images of some of Disney’s most beloved characters. It was sold in sizes 6M through 24M.
The onesies were sold between February and November of last year at both Disney World and Disneyland resorts as well as aboard Disney cruise ships. A number of these ships sail from Florida.
Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has advised consumers to no longer let their little ones wear the onesies. They’re asking people to contact the company by telephone or online for instructions on how to return them and receive a full refund.
Obviously, there must be extra precautions in the manufacturing of any clothing, toys or other products that are intended for use by or around infants and children. If a company discovers even the potential for harm, it’s ultimately in their best interest (in addition to that of consumers, of course) to recall it.
As long as a company doesn’t have a history of defective products, many consumers will actually have greater trust in it for being proactive in these matters. Even though companies will lose money on recalls, it’s often less than they would spend settling lawsuits.
