Freidin Brown, P.A. recently hosted local high school students from Miami Central High School and North Miami Senior High to enjoy a private screening of the recently released movie Marshall. The movie, based in the 1940s, tells the story of a young Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American to serve on the Supreme Court, as he faced great challenges while working for the NAACP.
We coordinated with Teach for America to invite students from Miami Central High School and North Miami High School who are interested in legal and political studies. We were honored to have special guest, Judge Darrin P. Gayles of the Southern District of Florida, who spoke with the students and answered questions about his career as an attorney and federal judge.
Our goal with this screening was to encourage and inspire these bright young minds to pursue careers in the legal field, as well as gain a better understanding of the obstacles Thurgood Marshall faced as a young attorney, and what he did to overcome them.
