Deciding to end a marriage is never easy, whether for couples in Florida or other states. Regardless of the circumstances that led to the decision to file for a divorce, there are likely great memories of happier times that cannot be erased. Nonetheless, emotions must be put aside, and in some cases, a divorce can become quite public. This is especially true for a celebrity couple facing a high asset divorce.
The divorce of one of Food Network's celebrity chefs, the 45-year-old Giada De Laurentiis, has been finalized, and the terms of the divorce agreement have been made public. She was married to 52-year-old Todd Thompson for 11 years, and the court ordered her to pay him $2 million as part of the property division distribution. The couple decided to share joint custody of their daughter, and De Laurentiis must pay monthly child support of $9,000.
The divorce agreement further states that Thompson will retain ownership of their residence that is valued at $3.2 million. De Laurentiis published several cookbooks while they were married, and she must pay Thompson half the profits earned on those. Also, she will have to split any advances she may receive on cookbooks that were unfinished at the time of the divorce.
Any Florida resident who is considering a high asset divorce may be overwhelmed by the intricacies of the laws related to property division, child and spousal support and more. The advice of an experienced attorney who focuses on assisting those with businesses, high-worth assets and sophisticated investment properties may be invaluable. Such a professional can provide support and guidance in navigating the divorce proceedings.
