A Broward Health nurse has been arrested for allegedly drugging and sexually abusing a patient.
According to officials, the abuse started on June 14 when the female victim met 42-year-old nurse David Paul Lazarus. Lazarus proceeded to ask her about her drug abuse past, and if her medications were working. The nurse then injected the victim with two syringes of what he said was morphine and 40 milligrams of Oxycontin.
The victim, who was in the hospital for kidney stones, was forced to perform oral sex on the nurse.
The female patient returned to the hospital two days later, and again Lazarus offered her a larger amount of pain medication, and gave her a large dose of Dilaudid. The victim reportedly refused the drugs, since she was just out of rehab.
Authorities report that Lazarus forced the victim to perform oral sex for the second time.
Lazarus was arrested when he showed up to meet the victim with unknown narcotics in his vehicle. Although he denies the abuse, Lazarus does admit to flirting with the victim, and agreeing to meet with her.
Lazarus was charged with two counts of sexual battery. Broward Health has not commented about the incident.
When schools, churches, nursing homes and other organizations fail to protect children and vulnerable adults from sexual predators, the victims suffer lasting emotional harm. Our Miami lawyers obtain compensation for victims of clergy sex abuse, child molestation, and other types of sexual abuse. We handle cases involving:
· Sexual molestation of children by priests, ministers, teachers, Boy Scout leaders, day care workers, and other adults
· Sexual exploitation of patients by therapists and counselors
· Sexual abuse of nursing home residents by staff
In most cases, sexual molestation and abuse occurs because an organization failed to take reasonable steps to protect victims. Often churches and other organizations ignore warning signs of sexual abuse - or worse, know about the abuse but do nothing to prevent it.
