In June, 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a warning that the type 2 diabetes drug Actos may be associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. Studies have suggested that the increased risk of bladder cancer is as high as 40% for individuals who have taken Actos for more than twelve months.
In response to these concerns, the FDA ordered that the U.S. labeling of Actos be updated and include an updated "black box warning" against using Actos if an individual has a history of bladder cancer. The black box warning also includes information about the connection between Actos and bladder cancer. Moreover, in response to the increased bladder cancer risk, France and Germany banned the sale of Actos.
Symptoms of bladder cancer may include:
Blood in your urine
Urinary tract infection
Feeling an urgent need to empty your bladder
Feeling the need to empty your bladder without results
Needing to strain when you empty your bladder
If you or a loved one have suffered any of the above complications as a direct result of taking Actos, or have been diagnosed with bladder cancer, you may be entitled to financial compensation.
