What Is Shoulder Dystocia?

Shoulder dystocia can occur when difficulty is experienced in the delivery of the anterior shoulder of the infant. When this happens, the chin of the infant often presses against the mother's perineum or pelvis, which causes puffiness, swelling, or bruising of the infant's face.

Injuries Resulting from Shoulder Dystocia:
The procedures and manipulations used to free the newborn's shoulder and complete the delivery can cause severe and permanent damage to the child. One of the most common and critical injuries from shoulder dystocia is a brachial plexus injury, where the nerves to the shoulder, arm, and hand are damaged. This may permanently impair feeling and mobility to the child's limb, thus impairing function. This injury is also commonly referred to as Erb's palsy.

How Can Freidin Brown, P.A. Help You?

Our legal team can help you gather evidence to support your claim; evidence that can be used as part of our negotiations when we present the negligent parties with your compensation demand. We even have nurses on staff to help us with the technical medical components for cases like shoulder dystocia, which are complex and require thorough analysis of the delivery and post-birth monitoring.

Our goal is to maximize the compensation for your child's injuries so he or she can receive the best care, be provided for in the future, and cope with the limits of his or her injury. Our compensation demand will include past, present, and future medical bill expenses, future psychological counseling, and the loss of future earning potential, as well as pain and suffering.

We prepare every case for trial in order to ensure we're prepared in the event we have to present our arguments and evidence to a judge and jury. Our trial attorneys believe in being over-prepared and making sure the jury looks at every factor of the case and every way your child's life has - and will - be affected by his or her shoulder dystocia-related injuries. Contact us today if you have questions about your right to file a personal injury claim for this type of injury.

Your first consultation is completely FREE and our contingency fee policy means you pay nothing until we win your case.
